I ran across a need to have a finer granularity of control on the manipulation of database tables. There are some tables within the database that are legacy and shouldn't be manipulated even when I make a change to the corresponding domain object. Other times I want the magic to happen. One thought is to have an annotation indicating if a domain object should be excluded. Here's a post on stack overflow related to this with a work around.
